haircut

I wanted to trim Ethan's hair so we went outside with the buzzers and set them at 1 inch. Everything was going well, the haircut was looking good, then Ethan (who hates getting his hair cut and screams the whole time and acts like your torturing him) moved quickly, jerking his head back and into the clippers, making and almost bald looking spot in the back of his hair. Crap. So we had to just buzz it all off to make it even. So now, his hair is the shortest it has ever been, I mean it...ever! He was born with a head full of hair. Thick, black hair. Gave me the WORST heartburn throughout my whole pregnancy. He likes the haircut alright. I think we were all very shocked at first, but now he has hair like daddy's and that makes him feel grown up. He told me he likes having "daddy" hair.

Here's a picture of Ethan and Paige the day we brought Ethan home form the hospital. I love how different they look. Paige with her light skin, blonde hair, (blue eyes, you can't see) and then Ethan with his dark skin, black hair, (brown eyes). Paige looks just like Jim's baby pictures, Ethan looks like mine.

What time is it? Clean time?

Sorry about not blogging much, I feel so disconnected from things these days. My days have been:
Get up
Get Sam and Ethan ready for the day (sometimes..sometimes we stay in Pj's all day)
Make sure Paige is getting ready for school
Breakfast
Pack lunch
Take Paige to school
Come home....
Clean
School time with kids
Clean
Lunch
Clean
Wallow in self pity b/c : A. I have very little adult human contact, B. I am sick of winter, C. I feel fat
Clean
Pick up Paige from school
Work on Homework with Paige
Dinner
Clean
Feel like a terrible parent for not spending more time with the kids
Bedtime routine
Bed

It's a terrible cycle. I know. But now that days have been nicer I feel more Pepped. More energetic. The kids will be able to play outside more and make less of a mess inside and I can have some much needed vitamin d. Winter killed me this year. Ha! Just you wait, there are some good posts coming. My van is crapping out on me, but hopefully I can get it looked at and have some much needed fun. Plus, a great adventure is in store for the Downie Girls here soon. Can't wait to post about that fun. Have a great night!

uh oh

My conversation with ethan while driving in the car earlier:
E: mom, i know what i'm going to ask santa for for christmas.
Me:oh yeah. What?
Ethan: a horse. A real one, not a robot one. And i'm going to name it thunder!
Me: uumm,well....santa might not be able to fit a horse in his sleigh.
Ethan: no, he'll just get a bigger sleigh and a bigger bag to carry him in.
Me:..................(oh crap)....................i

I told my sister that i've got 10 months to convince him he wants a fish more than a horse..she suggested a seahorse. Ha! Oy.

sleep

Out of the last 4 and a half years, jim has worked nights for 3 of those years. Well today was his first day starting back on day shift. Let me tell you...neither one of us slept well last night. Sad, i know, but we have gotten so used to sleeping apart that sleeping in the same bed at the same time was rather weird. He had gone to bed about 2 hours before me so when i got in bed i layed there and thought..."he breathes really loud". Then i got an itch on my leg so i scratched it with my other leg which rustled the blankets quite a bid and made him stir, so then of course everything else started itching, because you know when you think about not wanting to move everything starts to need scratching. I ended up in a comfy spot where my hand was right next to my face so if i needed to scratch then it could be done with minimal movement. Once comfy i lie there for about .8 seconds before jim shiften....taking all the blankets off of me. Oy. This was not going well. I finally fell asleep about an hour later with a pillow on my head(to block the heavy breathing) and my hand once again positioned by my head. When jim got home this afternoon he informed me that he got up about an hour after i fell asleep because i snore!

We agreed that we just have to get used to each others (annoying) little sleeping habits. I'll let you know how things go. If you see i posted the next segment of "jim and heather:re-adjusting" at 4 am..i think you'll know how its going. Ha!

Samantha

Samantha is 3 today. I can't believe how fast these last 3 years have gone by. I am so in love with this little girl. She walks around telling her brother and sister how they are all best friends and how much she loves them. She is such an amazing little girl. We love you Samantha!
